Subaru Canada has officially announced the arrival of the all-new 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness, the most rugged and capable Forester in the history of the model. Like the Outback Wilderness that arrived this summer, the Forester Wilderness features a number of interior and exterior upgrades to make this SUV more equipped for off-road.
Rugged Exterior
Subaru has combined styling with function when it comes to the exterior of the 2022 Forester Wilderness. The front and rear bumpers have been designed to give the SUV a more rugged appearance while also improving the approach and departure angles for off-roading. They have also incorporated an aluminum engine skid plate and a steel rear differential skid plate to provide added protection from rocks and debris to the vehicles mechanical components.
Useful features are highlighted on the exterior that stand out from other trims including the matte black hood decal that gives the vehicle a sportier design while reducing glare for the driver. Other useful features are highlighted in anodized copper accents such as the roof rail tie-downs. The Wilderness is equipped with versatile fixed ladder-type roof racks that have a higher load capacity and give you the ability to add a number of accessories including a roof-top tent.
The front headlights are unique to the Wilderness trim and include exclusive black inner headlight bezels and black inner extensions. Also included are hexagonal LED fog lights, 17-inch black all-terrain tires, and black wheel arches.
Interior For The Outdoor Enthusiast
Just as the exterior has been designed to take the road less travelled, the interior of the 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness has also received the same treatment. Starting with the seating, Subaru has upholstered the seats in an all-weather soft-touch material that can withstand getting wet while also being very easy to clean. Included on the seats is the Wilderness logo on the headrest and contrast copper stitching that can be found throughout. A gunmetal finish has been added to the dash, doors, and shifter plate that is complemented by the black headliner, roof console, and pillar trims.
To further protect the interior and allow you to be worry-free, all-weather mats are standard with the Wilderness trim and there is an included waterproof rear cargo tray so you can load your gear no matter what the condition.
Conquer the Roads On and Off-Road
The Forester Wilderness will be equipped with the same engine as its other Forester counterparts. The powerful and efficient 2.5 litre direct injection SUBARU BOXER engine with 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque has been revised however to offer a drivetrain that provides shorter gear ratios that allow the Wilderness to better handle uneven or slippery terrain. These changes as well as a CVT oil cooler has allowed the Forester Wilderness to have an increased towing capacity of 3,000 lbs, the highest in the model lineup.
Along with the improvements to the drivetrain, the Wilderness also includes a variety of drive modes to give the driver maximum control for any condition. There is dual-function X-MODE that comes standard that offers two differently tailored drive settings for optimum performance on either dirt/snow or deep mud/snow. Hill Descent Control is also included which engages the brakes for individual wheels to control the vehicle’s speed when going down a steep hill.
New displays help the driver navigate tricky or potentially hazardous situations including a Roll-Angle Indication which gives you important information on the vehicle’s positioning and a front view camera that offers a near 180-degree view of what is in front of the vehicle to allow you to avoid low obstacles you may not see.
The suspension has also been enhanced for the Wilderness trim by gaining 15mm which provides increased comfort and capability on and off-road. This also allows the vehicle to have an increased ground clearance for a total of 229mm to better handle obstacles off road.
Advanced Safety Features
While the Forester Wilderness provides confidence and safety off-road, it also features the latest in safety technology from Subaru for on road driving. The latest fourth generation of EyeSight Driver Assist Technology will come standard on the Wilderness model as well as all other 2022 Forester models. This version includes Emergency Automatic Steering, Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with stop, Lead vehicle start alert, and an improved camera system with a new electric brake booster to improve collision avoidance. Other standard safety features will include Reverse Automatic Braking, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Rear/Side Vehicle Detection, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
