More capability. Increased versatility. Bigger adventures. These are just some of the ways to describe the all-new 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness due to arrive in summer 2021. The Outback is the first of the Subaru lineup to receive the Wilderness treatment with plans for more models to follow.
The Outback has always been known as the reliable, capable, family hauler and Subaru has turned that capability up a notch with a number of trim exclusive features to gain the attention of those looking for an even more rugged adventurer.
Powering this off-road vehicle is a turbocharged 2.4L 260hp SUBARU BOXER® engine that provides robust power, smooth torque, and a shorter-ratio Lineartronic® CVT with transfer and rear differential gearing for optimal off-road performance. Subaru’s legendary Symmetrical Full-Time All-Wheel Drive with new Dual-Function X-MODE® comes standard to take on any terrain or condition. The traditional all-season tires have been swapped for black 17” all-terrain tires to provide superior traction and appearance on and off-road.
To compete with other off-roading SUV competitors, the Outback Wilderness has a raised suspension with 241mm ground clearance, durable body cladding, and metal skid plates underneath to protect the body from sharp rocks, edges, and debris. The front and rear bumpers feature four tow hook points so it’s easy to attach a tow rope should it be required during your travels.
The capability of the Outback Wilderness doesn’t just stop with the off-road performance, Subaru also made other improvements so you can not only go anywhere, but you can go anywhere with more. The engine has an increased towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. as well as new roof rails capable of supporting a static weight of approximately 700 lbs. so you can bring all of your toys and belongings with ease.
Subaru designed the interior to be comfortable yet functionable with features that suit the nature of this model. For example, the seats are made from an all-weather soft-touch upholstery for greater durability against mud, dirt, and other debris. All-weather rubber floor mats are also included to provide protection to the flooring of the vehicle.
Although the interior is meant to withstand more rugged conditions, this Outback certainly doesn’t lack any interior features that make driving this vehicle a joy. Subaru’s large 11.6” tablet-style infotainment system makes up the center dash with standard Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. SUBARU STARLINK® Connected Services offer superior convenience, connectivity, and security to provide you with peace of mind for every drive or even when you’re away from your vehicle.
The Outback Wilderness provides the same level of safety on and off-road. The standard Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology with Lane Centering Assist and Pre-Collision Braking provides impressive safety and driving confidence no matter what road you’re on. The LED headlights are even steering responsive so they illuminate the direction in which you are steering the vehicle in low light conditions. Unique design cues to the Wilderness model include the eye-catching hexagonal-designed fog lights and Wilderness badges found around the vehicle that makes it easily identifiable.
